Dear HBA Clients, Partners, and Friends, Like you, we have been closely monitoring the rapidly evolving situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are taking active measures to protect our employees and their families, clients, vendors, and associates during this time. As a proactive step in accordance with CDC recommendations, HBA has implemented a temporary remote work policy across our firm effective today, Wednesday, March 18th, 12:00 PM, until further notice.  As always, we are committed to being responsive to our clients and meeting project schedules without interruption. We have remote collaborative workspace systems and teleconferencing systems in place to ensure that we can maintain the high level of service that you have come to expect from us. We encourage you to join us in substituting virtual meetings for in-person meetings whenever possible.  We have halted business travel and we are greatly limiting our in-person meetings and site visits on a case-by-case basis. Sumitomo Expansion Unveiling

HBA’s Mike Molzahn and Katie Martin attended Sumitomo Drive Technologies Expansion Unveiling and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Monday, October 7, 2019. Sumitomo Drive Technologies is headquartered in Cavalier Industrial Park in Chesapeake, VA with an office and warehouse facility equaling over 240,000 square feet. Sumitomo Drive Technologies, which as been around for over 130 years, is part of Sumitomo Machinery Corporation of America (SMA), which is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Heavy Industries based in Tokyo, Japan. SMA leads the global industry in the manufacturing of power transmission, gear reducers and control products. Its innovative and quality products are sold around the world. The last major expansion of the facility was over 122,000 square feet and was completed between 1988 and 1991. Since the facility sits on over a 50 acre lot, SMA decided to invest in an expansion that would utilize the existing acreage and eliminate their leased property housing the existing Distribution Center in Suffolk, VA. HBA Welcomes back Justin, Carly and Nash as summer interns!

HBA is pleased to announce the return of Justin Creese, Carly Bromwell, and Nash Euman to our staff as summer interns. All three were with us last summer and are returning for their second and third years respectively. Justin Justin is a recent graduate of Pratt where he completed his Bachelor of Architecture in 2019. Justin recently relocated to the Virginia Beach area. For his thesis he worked on a project dealing with a natural disaster response system post hurricane Maria and a design manual teaching the basics of architecture to incoming freshman, he likes to draw and loves the beach front!   Carly Carly is a rising senior at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), graduating 2021 and is studying abroad in Switzerland next spring.  At school she is the ‘Better Box Design Chair’ for Habitat for Humanity and has been working on a design for a low-cost, efficient single-family home.  In her free time she likes to stay active by hiking, biking, paddle-boarding, snow boarding,  etc.  This summer she is learning to play the guitar. She is excited to be back at HBA and is very grateful to have this opportunity.   Nas

HBA Welcomes Sam Harlow and Matthew Gump as Summer interns

HBA is pleased to announce the addition of Sam Harlow and Matthew Gump to our staff as Summer Interns.   Sam Harlow Sam is a rising 4th year student at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). She is a first-gen student and has two dogs at home. She enjoys making ceramics in her spare time. She will be studying abroad in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland in the fall.   Matt Gump Matt is a rising 3rd year student at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), and is a part of a long line of Hokies. He enjoys reading, writing, playing board games, and running Dungeons & Dragons.  At school he worked on a tool belt design for NASA (in picture). We look forward to having them join us this summer.
