"Having a few years of experience under my belt, I felt confident when starting at HBA simply because I knew this was the firm that was going to take my skills to the next level. At HBA I’ve been given the opportunity to grow my knowledge for Interior Design, Architecture, and Construction. I love the fact that I’ve been able to become a well-rounded Designer with new tricks and tools up my sleeve!"
Alexis HudsonInterior Designer
"One of the things I love about HBA is getting to interact with clients on a daily basis; our projects are only as good as our clients, and at HBA we're lucky enough to have some great ones. I feel like I'm constantly learning new things about the world from them, which makes coming in to work each day that much more exciting."
Chris AmesAssociate Architect
"When I graduated, I was looking for a firm where I could gain the experience that would help me reach my goal of becoming a licensed architect, while having fun with my coworkers - I found all of that at HBA. Through the help of my mentors and colleagues at HBA, I have grown from an inexperienced new graduate to a licensed architect, managing large projects from the schematic design phase, all the way through construction."
Lauren PerryAssociate Architect
"Working at HBA has been great these past years. I have gotten to work on many different types of projects, and really grow and expand my experience in architecture. I'm excited to finish school and work at HBA year round!"
Nash EumanSummer Intern
"When I started at HBA in 1995, I was looking for a firm to call home that would also encourage my professional development. Over 26 years at HBA I’ve worked on many types of projects and in varied roles. Projects have ranged from small retail build-outs to complex multi-building campuses. On every project, even the smallest ones, we have an opportunity to improve our built environment. I’ve been allowed an opportunity to constantly expand my professional knowledge beginning as a staff architect to my current role as Principal responsible for the financial aspects of the firm. Every day is a new opportunity!"

but we aren’t just architects & designers, outside of the office we are..
musicians, Polar Plunge enthusiasts, world travelers, scuba divers, diet coke fanatics, DIYers, master chefs, and sports fans
we’re passionate about giving back to our community, and have a lot of fun together doing so..

POLAR PLUNGE
One of our favorite things about living in Virginia Beach is access to the beach all summer. But nobody thought when they moved here they'd be jumping into the ocean in February too! Each year, we jump into the ocean in February (brr) to raise money for the Special Olympics. We've been doing this as a company for 10+ years, and it's always one of our favorite events!

WE CARE
This event is one of our favorites. In partnership with Herman Miller and American Office, we host a holiday celebration for the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Virginia. We design and host a holiday craft table for young kids to get creative! It's always fun to see how each child takes the same project and makes it unique.

CANSTRUCTION
Give a bunch of architects the opportunity to build something, and we go crazy! Each year, we participate in Canstruction, where we construct structures & designs out of cans. These are displayed locally for a week, and then donated to the Food Bank.

NEPTUNE FESTIVAL SANDSCULPTING
At the Oceanfront, the Neptune Festival hosts an "amateur" sand-sculpting contest. Each team designs & builds their own design over the course of about a 4-5 hour build time. You'd be surprised how many trips to the water it takes to build a well smoothed sand design! It's hard work, but always a fun day in the sun spent with your coworkers.
