Polar Plunge 2016

The HBA family joined the crowd of thousands again this year who were crazy enough to jump into the Atlantic for fun! The Polar Plunge of Virginia Beach was held on February 6th, benefiting the Special Olympics. This is the 12th year in a row that HBA has participated, and we are so proud to be one of the top fundraising teams again this year, raising $9,866.01 and shattering our fundraising record from 2015. Our own Mike Ross was our top fundraiser, and was even the #2 Top Individual Fundraiser for the event, raising over $3,500.

Each year, we pick a different character or icon to dress up as, because if you’re going to jump into 30 degree water, you might as well look good doing it, right? This year, we elected to dress up as the iconic LEGO characters! We created our LEGO heads out of concrete quick-tube forms and cardboard, and made our LEGO hands out of PVC pipe. Each of us customized our LEGO head to show off our unique personalities, and we had so much fun seeing the characters that each of us picked.

After the third plunge of the day, when our toes were frozen and our hair became icicles, we weren’t so sure that everything was awesome, but we sure had a lot of fun! Thank you to all of our sponsors, we are so proud to have beat our fundraising goal and provided such a valuable contribution to the great people over at the Special Olympics making dreams a reality every day!
