HBA: Preparing for the Future

admin
40th Anniversary, Design
HBA is preparing to celebrate our 40-year anniversary in the next few months -- no small feat for an Architecture firm these days. But along with 40 years and a prolific portfolio of work comes a lot of paper and supplies. Along with our celebration, we will be undergoing a fairly extensive office renovation... which means it's time to clean. We understand the impact facilities (and the unused items inside them) can have on the environment, and strive to implement sustainable design strategies and methodologies wherever possible. While the heart of any “green” building project (whether new construction or a renovation) is to minimize the impact on the natural environment, green buildings also offer clients and end users healthy, productive work and living spaces that may potentially cost less to operate and maintain. From outdated technology to unused samples, we've ended up with quite a bit of miscellaneous supplies that we no longer need or use. Over the next few months, we'll show you what we do with the supplies-- instead of just tossing them in the dumpster. We try to live what we preach, which is creating an environmentally-sound, healthy space in which to work.

HRACRE Internship Program

Events, People
HBA recently played a role in the HRACRE Internship program. Our own Alec Yuzhbabenko, Architectural Intern, was a participant in the program and Candi James, Director of Business Development and Marketing, chaired the program for HRACRE. The 16 interns who participated were employed around Hampton Roads by a variety of Commercial Real Estate industry firms. The program included 6 weeks or more of employment for the interns during which time they were invited to an HRACRE general membership luncheon, 2 lunch and learns and 1 breakfast and learn. To round the program out there was a closing luncheon at the Town Point Club at which time these young people were able to stand and share what they enjoyed about their internship with the employer as well as what they enjoyed about the program itself-a delight to hear their thoughts. And for the grand finale we were able to provide each of these juniors and seniors in college with a small scholarship check to help with school expenses. The interns were surprised and delighted. This was an excellent program and an honor to be affiliated with – thanks HRACRE for the opportunity! Check out the great article Inside Business wrote
