HBA Adopt A Family

This Holiday season, HBA is making the Christmas wishes of a very deserving Virginia Beach family come true. We connected with the Social Worker Services Department of Virginia Beach City Public Schools to sponsor a family through their Holiday Connection program. Read the following description of the family we “adopted,” provided by our contact:

“I have a match for you!  It is a family that I work directly with at an elementary school. Twins were found abandoned in a hotel room as their biological mother is a drug addict.  Their new Mom was a distant friend of the family and stepped up to adopt the boys.  One of the children was in Special Ed, but has been exited from the program due to Mom’s diligence in helping him with school.  She is very active at the school.  The family is low income and lives in public housing.  I cannot think of a more deserving family!”

We knew from this that we had the right family to help this Holiday season. A wish list was distributed to HBA staff and was soon filled. The response was so amazing that we were able to provide gift cards for the mother as well. Our contact relayed the following after delivering the wrapped gifts to the family’s mother:

“Mom was overwhelmed with all of the gifts! She was actually speechless.  Thank you and your team for your generosity.  The attention to detail was impeccable.  When I pointed out the gift cards in her stocking, she was blown away.  Because the twins are not blood related, she does not get much assistance from social services.  Thank you all for making this a Christmas that she and the boys will never forget. The gifts took up all the space in the living room.  I am not sure how she will hide them. She is excited about the bikes and hid them at her niece’s house across the street.  They are going to have an awesome Christmas day!”
